The ancient Chinese Silk Route traverses some of the world's remotest and harshest landscapes and lest any doubts remain - adventure travel in Tibet, Xinjiang and Kyrgyzstan is all about big mountains. Tibet travel is always at altitude and even when not passing over high passes, overland travelers will be still well above 3000 metres.
