'Go.Kwingo.net' Gives Travelers Instant, Free Access to Spanish Phrases Right on Their Mobile Phones

Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) June 19, 2008 -- Kwingo ("quick lingo") announced today it has launched a consumer service that provides instant access for travelers to phrases in English and Spanish: they simply go to http://go.kwingo.net on any web-enabled cell phone or PDA. (Note no "www" in web address.) The service is free, and pronunciation is provided for all words and phrases.

"We designed this web application to be extremely simple and fast," said Lisa Foote, Kwingo's CEO and cofounder. "Anyone who can click on a link can use it. Talk about instant gratification - you can find the right phrase and be saying it before the next guy can even find his dictionary in his bag! It's the right tool for the modern traveler."

The Go.Kwingo? site was specifically designed for the small screens of mobile phones, with a simple, clear interface for fast access to the right category of phrases when a traveler is on the go. The home page provides instant access to screens for Hotel, Dining, Transportation/Directions, Recreation/Concierge, and Banking phrases. A helpful Pronunciation screen includes general tips and how to pronounce days, times, numbers, and months.

Each of the more than 200 travel-related phrases provided by Go.Kwingo? is displayed on the user's mobile phone screen complete with phonetic pronunciation. For example, for the phrase "Do you take credit cards?" the Spanish is "¿Acepta tarjetas de crédito?"

Go.Kwingo? provides the following phonetic pronunciation, each word on a separate line on the screen for ease of reading: ¿ah-SEP-tah ? tar-HAY-tahss ? day ? KREH-dee-toh?

Millions of Americans will be traveling internationally this summer. Mexico is the eighth most popular tourist destination according to the World Tourism Organization, and Central and South American countries are becoming increasingly popular for U.S. travelers. A recent analysis by USA Today found that summer travel season is even busier than holiday travel. Thus, the introduction of the Go.Kwingo? site now is quite opportune - especially since virtually all travelers who own cell phones travel with them.

How the Concept for Kwingo Began

More than a year ago, Kwingo co-founders Lisa Foote and Brad Roberts started to think about solutions to language challenges, which they saw multiplying as economies were continuing to globalize. Highly experienced business people, they founded Kwingo to provide language tools for both consumers and businesses, the latter having more and more workers in the field who were increasingly using mobile phones in a daily basis. The founders realized first there was a significant business opportunity to invent a way for those field workers, in a variety of industries, to better communicate with supervisors and coworkers who speak a different language - thereby helping everyone work more productively and safely.

The company's first application was introduced early in 2008 to allow commercial kitchens in restaurants and institutions to provide their workers thousands of food-prep and cooking phrases in English and Spanish. Like the Go.Kwingo? consumer travel application, it can be accessed on any web-enabled handset, PDA, or PC-type device, and usage is free. Kwingo customizes these sites to the specific restaurant company, with food names and terms unique to that firm. Supervisors and coworkers use the Kwingo food-prep application on their cell phones, PDAs, or on a touch-screen tablet PC in the kitchen, and no user instruction is required since the interface is so intuitive.

"We realized the best mobile applications will be built from scratch specifically for mobile devices," said CEO and cofounder Lisa Foote. "So, that's what we set out to do in 2007. Kwingo will be a leading provider of such applications - simple, useful language tools that anyone can use."

Kwingo will be announcing yet another business application within weeks - this one for the hotel industry. It will allow supervisors of non-English speaking housekeeping employees to look up on their cell phones instructions to give them in Spanish, or for those employees to look up phrases unique to their job so they can communicate in English to their supervisors and others.

Considerably Lower in Cost Than Existing Products - and Environmentally Friendly!

Unlike traditional translation solutions, Kwingo cell phone applications require no download, registration, or fee, and give immediate access with no proprietary or additional hardware or booklet. Not only are they free (supported in the future by advertising), but they are nicer to the environment - requiring no paper or printing like travel dictionaries. Created using the Ruby on Rails agile development environment, the company's language web sites can be updated quickly when necessary on the servers the company hosts, with the updates instantly accessible to users. Kwingo's software is patent pending.

About Kwingo

Kwingo (www.kwingo.net), based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, develops mobile software applications focused on travel language solutions and workplace productivity, to allow for communication in any two languages. Its language applications work on any web-enabled mobile phone or PC device. The company generates revenue through (1) fees for developing custom, constantly updated web sites unique to each company's needs; (2) providing its applications as add-ons to existing technology providers; and (3) in the future through advertising to individuals who use the public Kwingo web sites free of charge. Kwingo's highly focused, differentiated versions of its mobile applications - for international travelers as well as workers in such industries as food service, hospitality, construction, landscaping, and others - give advertisers access to targeted buyers in highly sought after demographic groups.

Hilton Head Island Travel Guide
Hilton Head Island was the first ecologically-planned destination in The United States. Light pollution ordinances are in effect across the island to protect the habits of the loggerhead turtles which sometimes confuse the lights of dwellings and street lights with that of the ocean. Protections are in place to protect the beautiful live oaks and palmetto trees which cover the island. Salt marshes, beaches and lagoons remain in pristine condition across the island. While modern conveniences such as shopping malls and five star hotels are widely available; care has been taken to blend these structures into the native ecology as much as possible.
